Historical Notes in Regard to Radio Development in
Basel Switzerland
1890 to 1992
The original notes are in German and I will
eventually translate these to English. All pages will
eventually be reviewed and updated but this is a slow

Basler Reminiszenzen
1980 bis 1992
Group of UHF Basel developed. The 1977 radio
car spent by the arsenal to Oensingen after Bettingen gave

Die UHF-gruppe Basel entstand. Die 1977 vom Zeughaus Oensingen nach Bettingen verbrachten Funkwagen gaben den Versuchsstandort für Funkrelais. Die beiden OMs Oskar Kalb HB9MCT und Fredi Balmer HB9ATI waren die Triebkräfte. Dann wurde das erste Relais im Dachstock des Bruderholtspitals montiert. Leider wurde der Netztrafo überlastet, begann zu stinken und die Feuerwehr kam angerast. Die Spitalleitung hat daraufhin den Vertrag gekündigt. Da HB9MCT seit 1974 als Assistent der Elektronikabtl.der IBB Muttenz tätig war, konnte das Relais samt Antenne dort montiert werden.
Es wurde versucht, eine neue Art Fuchsjagd einzuführen. Er wurde "Quiz-Fox" genannt An einem Samstagnachmittag kam von einer portablen Station auf 2 m die Ansage:Hier ist der Quiz-Fox. Bitte beginnt mit der Suche. Die Teilnehmer stellten nun gezielte Fragen von ihren mobilen 2 m Geräten an den Quiz-Fox, der sie nur mit "Ja" oder "Nein" beantwortete. Durch schlaue Kombinatorik gelang es dann, dessen Standort ausfindig zu machen. Sieger war, wer den Fox mit Handschlag begrüssen konnte. Diese Art Fuchsjagd wurde sehr beliebt. Statt Fotos existiert eine komplete Serie von Farbdias, die einmal von Penn Valley nach FACB verlagert werden sollte.
Ein Beamter des ED hatte die Aufgabe, geeignete Kurse
für Jugendliche zu erdenken. Der grosse Erfolg des
JEZ machte ihn wütend und er teilte HB9DU, HB9BVA und
HB9ECR mit, dass das Lokal besser in einen Spielsalon
umgewandelt werden müsse. HB9DU hat sich mit letzter
Kraft gewehrt und fand glückliche Hilfe bei der
Prognos AG, der Basler Handelskammer und in der Person von
Dr. h.c. Georg H. Endress von der Fa. FlowteC in Reinach.
Die drei Herren gingen zu Reg.rat Prof. Striebel vom ED
und sprachen die nötigen Warte. Es wurde die
Weiterführung des JEZ beschlossen, aber unter
Ausschluss von HB9DU. Es wurde ein Trägerverein
gegründet und als neuer Chef des B22 Christoph Biel
HB9DKQ angestellt.
Die drei Basler Hams Christoph Biel HB9DKQ, Martin Sobernheim HB9DKM und Michael Ackermann HB9DKX unternehmen eine DX-pedition in die Südsee. Auf der, zu den Cook Islands gehörenden Insel Aitutaki stellten sie die Station ZK 1.XB auf, umeinmal zu erleben, wie es "am andern Ende der DX-schlange" zu und her geht. Später(1994)haben 9DQV und DKM einen Lichtbildervortrag daruber im NCARC gehalten.
Auf einen Brief von HB9DU hin, antwortet die Regierung von Basel-Land, dass sie grundsätzlich bereit sei, ein JEZ Basel-Land zu unterstützen. Mit Hilfe des Sekretärs des TV Dr. Hermann Burkhard wurde in Gelterkinden an der Rickenbacherstr.29 ein sehr geeignetes Lokal gefunden, in welchem heute das JEZ BL ist.
Das Verkehrshaus Luzern plant eine Ausstellung "Kommunikation 89". Die USKA sieht sich ausserstande, einen grossen Stand dort aufzubauen. Das JEZ zusammen mit dem FACB übernehmen diese Aufgabe. Es wird ein Stand mit 12 ausgerüsteten Arbeitsplätzen + ein Tisch mit allgemeinem Werkzeug aufgestellt. Dort können während der ganzen Ausstellungszeit ab 1300 Jugendliche sich eine übungs-morsestation basteln, wobei jeweilen zwei mit Draht zusammengeschaltet werden können, um QSO zu üben. Der Erfolg war gross, wir haben nach der Ausstellung noch viele Nachbestellungen erhalten.
Im gleichen Jahr wurde vom Arbeitsamt Baselstadt dem B22 eine Hilfskraft zugeteilt. Es war ein Mann, der arbeitslos gemeldet war und vorher in der Gastwirtschaft tätig war. Als Kriegsveteran aus dem Vietnamkrieg sprach er natürlich Englisch, aber auch Ungarisch, Französisch und... Baseldeutsch. Er hat sich sehr eingesetzt und war uns ,auch mit seiner Bärenkraft,eine wertvolle Hilfe. Eines Tages erklärte er mir,dass er meine Tochter Eve heirate und nach Penn Valley CA USA ziehe. Was dann auch geschah.
Auf eine Anregung der NASA hin wurde im "short-skip" eine
Bauanleitung für einen Empfänger
veröffentlicht, der auf Längstwellen die
eigenartigen Pfeifsignale empfangen konnte, die durch
Störungen der Ionosphäre Verursacht werden. Die
NASA plante, solche Störungen künstlich zu
erzeugen und suchte weltweit Hörstationen zu
gewinnen. Besonders Martin HB9DKM hat sich der Sache
angenommen. Leider explodierte im Weltall die Maschine,
welche freie Elektronen heraus schiessen sollte und NASA
bewilligte keinerlei Gelder mehr für solche Versuche.
Da HB9DU 1987 durch die Machenschaften des ED einen Herzinfarkt erlitt, wurde seine Gesundheit so schlecht, dass er die Arbeit im B22 und R29 aufgeben musste. Er musste sich entscheiden, in ein teures Pflegeheim zu gehen oder zu seiner Tochter nach Penn Valley in ihr grosses Haus zu ziehen. Die Leser dieser Zeiten wissen was geschah. alles weitere können Sie den monatlichen Berichten im "short-skip" entnehmen.
Mit diesem Jahr endet die chronologische Zusammenstellung über die Ereignisse in Basel Es wurden nur solche Ereigniss dargestellt, bei denen in irgendwelcher Farm der Autor involviert war. Es fehlen deshalb Ereignisse, wie die Gründung weiterer Sektionen in Basel(z.Bsp.Lützelbächli, HB9LF, Cibageigy usw.) Es wäre sehr zu wünschen, dass ein OM, der dies Alles miterlebt hat, es schriftlich und mit Fotos für die Nachwelt festhält. Der Autor ist kein Historiker, kein Schriftsteller und noch weniger ein Dichter. Er bittet des halb um Nachsicht für seine Grammatik, sein Stil und seine Druckfehler.
Die Sonderberichte sind zu umfangreich. Sie können in Penn Valley eingesehen und kopiert werden. Sie sollten bei Gelegenheit in das Archiv der OG oder des FACB gehen, zusammen mit Hunderten von Dias und QSL-karten.
Im Abschnitt über die Zickendraht'schen Sendetürme ist die offizielle Version des Abrisses wegen Unfallgefahr übernommen worden. Was sich jedoch vorher abgespielt hat, kann der Autor als damaliger Augenzeuge erzählen. Es hat nichts mit Funktechnik zu tun, dürfte jedoch erwähnenswert sein.
Zwischen der physikalischen und der chemischen Anstalt
der Universität standen zwei mächtige, ca. 60
m hohe Stahltürme. Unten hatten sie vier konische
Beine in Betonsockeln und oben zwei spitz zulaufende
Rahen, an denen äussersten Enden die Reusenantenne
befestigt war.
Seit Langem war es Tradition, dass in der chem.Anstalt
das sog.Weihnachtsfest gefeiert wurde. Es fand weit vor
Weihnachten statt und bestand darin, dass das ganze
Institut von den Studenten in ein Vergnügungslokal
umgewandelt wurde. Im grossen Hörsaal zeigte der
Abwart seine Zauberkunststücke mit Bravour, in den
einzelnen Labors waren jede Menge Bars und in den
Gängen wurde zu lebendem Orchester getanzt. Die
Damen erschienen im Ballrock, die Herren im Frack. Eine
der Traditionen war, dass genau um Mitternacht Alles auf
das Flachdach der Anstalt stieg, um dort zwischen den Ab
zugs kaminen eine Polonaise durchzuführen. Die
Musik lieferte ein vorausgehender Akkordeonspieler.
Einmal spielte sich folgendes ab: die Polonaise war im
Gang, als plötzlich einige auf den untern Teil des
Sendeturms zeigten und nervös wurden. Dort stieg
ein Student langsam und behutsam die Eisenleiter in der
Mitte des Turms hinauf. Sein Studentenname war
"Wärze". Man rief ihm zu, nicht weiter zu klettern
und herunter zu kommen. Denn nüchtern war
Wärze sicher nicht. Alles nützte Nichts. Er
stieg beharrlich weiter. Immer höher und
höher. Die Polonaise kommt zum Stillstand. alles
blickt wie gebannt auf den Kletterer. Man ruft die
Feuerwehr und das Notfallauto um Hilfe, Jetzt ist
Wärze zu oberst angelangt. Er steigt aus der
Leiter,schwingt sich auf den Mittelteit des Turms ,wo er
aufrecht stehend hin und her schwankt. Auf dem Dach
herrscht Totenstille. Die Damen bedecken ihre Augen mit
den Händen, einzelne fallen in Ohnmacht. Wärze
bleibt nicht stehen. Schwankend läuft er auf der
Rahe gegen ihr spitzes Ende zu und bleibt kurz vorher
stehen. Dann packt er aus und verrichtet seine Notdurft
aus 60 m in die Tiefe. Allen bleibt das Lachen im
Hatsstecken. Dann packt er ein und beginnt den
Rückweg. In der Zwischenzeit ist die Feuerwehr da
und versucht, ein Sprungtuch aus zubreiten und eine
Drehleiter aus zufahren. Beides glückt der Enge
wegen nicht. Wärze ist jetzt wieder auf der Leiter
und steigt abwärts, Unten angekommen, schaut er
sich die Menschenmenge und Feuerwehrleute erstaunt an
und sagt: "Worum mache-n-er ä sone Gschiss
wägenem glaine Brinneli?". Fällt um und
schläft ein. Auf der Notfallstation wird die
Diagnose gestellt: Total gesund, aber stockbesoffen.
