Cathode Ray Tube
Translated from German
All Italics mine. Kevin O'Neill
The name cathode ray tube is actually archaic, it should
be called an electron beam tube. The latter never became
generally accepted.
The electrons pass from the Katode K and
through the grid g . Actually there is only
one hole in the grid . The electrons are
accelerated by the anodeHa . The voltage to the
focusing anodeF changes the image definition.
The post acceleration anodeA brings the
electrons to a higher speed. They go through two
deflection plates for vertical deflection and two for
horizontal deflection. Then they hit the screen. The
coating on the inside of the tube lights up depending upon
it's composition: green, yellow or blue. The graphite
lining catches electrons bouncing around. In modern
electronics Cathode Ray Oscilloscopes are just as
important measuring instruments, as volt, amp and ohm
meters.
